PrEP in Europe webinar - PrEP for women in Europe (Part 2)

On Tuesday 13 July 2021, PrEP in Europe held the second part of its webinar on PrEP for women in Europe.

The webinar included presentations by:

- Kim Leverett, nurse practitioner at Barts Health NHS Trust in east London, which recruited the largest group of women to England’s IMPACT PrEP rollout trial.
- Sophie Strachan, a UK sexual health advisor who is also co-ordinator of the Sophia Forum, an advocacy and rights group for women affected by HIV.
- Dr Olga Denisiuk, who is the head of the Programme Optimisation and Research Team of the Alliance for Public Health, Ukraine and is involved in the PrEP demonstration projects there.

PrEP in Europe webinar - PrEP for women in Europe (Part 1)

On Tuesday 22 June 2021, PrEP in Europe held the first part of its webinar on PrEP for women in Europe. The second part was held on Tuesday 13 July.

The webinar included presentations by:

- Dr Sylvain Chawki, infectious disease physician and researcher in Paris. Sylvain will centre his talk around the latest data on drug levels, dosing and the likely efficacy of injected and oral PrEP in cis and trans women.

- Dr Ana Silva-Klug, STI clinician and PrEP programme co-ordinator at the University Hospital of Bellvitge in Barcelona. Ana will talk about working with patients to secure PrEP in Spain, a country whose guidelines only specify PrEP for women if they are sex workers.

- Irene Ogeta, Associate Program Officer at ATHENA Network, Nairobi. Irene has been a community educator and PrEP advocate among adolescent girls and young women in Kenya for several years. She will talk about the knowledge and acceptability of PrEP there and how her project's findings have influenced government policy.

On 12 April 2021, EATG​, AVAC, PrEP in Europe Initiative, and PrEPster held an e-meeting briefing for community educators and advocates on the research and developments along the HIV biomedical prevention pipeline.

The meeting was opened by Gus Cairns (PrEP in Europe Initiative) and presentations followed from: Cindra Feuer (AVAC); Penny Moore (University of the Witwatersrand); and Michael Meullbroek and Ferran Pujol (BCN Checkpoint). The Q&A was moderated by Will Nutland (PrEPster) and the meeting was concluded by Gus Cairns and Sarah North (EATG).

PrEP in Europe webinar – PrEP and the trans community

On Thursday 17 December, PrEP in Europe held a webinar on PrEP and the trans community.

Trans women and men worldwide need PrEP to protect them from HIV. This webinar combines scientific research by, and for, trans people on HIV and PrEP, and the recommendations from PrEP in Europe's recent meeting for European trans advocates.

The webinar included presentations by:

- Dr Sari Reisner, Harvard Medical School, Boston
- Dr Akarin Hiransuthikul, Department of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok
- Dinah Bons, Trans United Europe, Amsterdam.

PrEP in Europe webinar – PrEP, sex, intimacy and mental health

On Tuesday 29 September 2020, PrEP in Europe held a special webinar on PrEP, sex, intimacy and mental health.

The webinar was based on PrEP in Europe's recent research briefing (read it here: https://www.prepineurope.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/PrEP-in-Europe-Briefing-paper-SEPT-2020-FINAL.pdf).

The webinar includes presentations from:

- Philip Keen, co-ordinator of the NSW HIV prevention Partnership Project, based at the Kirby Institute, Australia.
- Elske Hoornenborg from AmPrEP, the Netherlands, which has just published findings in improved aspects of mental health in participants.
- Will Nutland, co-founder of PrEPster, a grassroots PrEP education and advocacy project in the UK.
